Huawei, Zain KSA test Superlink microwave for Saudi broadband

Chinese telecoms equipment vendor Huawei and Saudi telco Zain KSA have conducted a Proof of Concept (PoC) test on Huawei's Superlink microwave solution, which Huawei claims achieved groundbreaking results.

The test is part of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT)'s Universal Service Fund (USF) program.

Huawei's Superlink microwave kit houses a quad-band antenna designed to access 6, 7, 8 and 11 GHz frequencies simultaneously.

According to Huawei, the PoC link achieved 3.5Gbps high capacity at 35km distance, with availability of up to 99.999%, and Huawei claims it can be smoothly upgraded up to 8Gbps in the future.

"This milestone marks the first commercial application of Huawei's Superlink solution with universal ODUs(outdoor units)," Huawei stated in its announcement.

"The critical component is the innovative Quad-band antenna, which is designed to support all channels in 6/7/8/11GHz frequency bands simultaneously, resolving the low band frequency channel limitation.

"Working with universal ODUs enables the solution to be widely deployed with economic cost and efficiency.

"This breakthrough addresses critical challenges associated with low-band microwave links."

Zain KSA's Vice President of Engineering, Eng. Mohammed AlNujaidi said Zain KSA is dedicated to expanding its digital ecosystem across the Kingdom through its global partnerships.

"And we will continue to enhance broadband services, particularly in remote areas, reinforcing our commitment to bridging the digital divide and boosting connectivity across urban and rural communities alike," AlNujaidi said.
