Nextcloud Hub 8 features introduced to public at enterprise day

Open-source file syncing and sharing software company Nextcloud has presented its new release, Nextcloud Hub 8, to about 200 people at the Nextcloud Enterprise day in Munich on Wednesday.

A statement said the release incorporated input from the public sector and fixed AI leaks, and issues relating to cross-departmental communication and accessibility certification and also day-to-day efficient team work.

Two big cloud enterprises, OVHcloud and IONOS, presented their European-based AI-as-a-Service offerings for Nextcloud to the same gathering.

Developed together with public sector partners, including the German state of Schleswig-Holstein, the Nextcloud AI Assistant V2.0 provides a solution to the challenge of data sovereignty grounded in on-premises or regionally hosted AI services.

Nextcloud said its flagship product had gained BitBV 2.0 accessibility certification, providing access to all users, including those with limitations and requirements for non-standard input devices or measures like screen readers.

Other key features include the addition of chat federation in Nextcloud talk, simplifying collaboration across organisational borders by allowing participants from multiple Nextcloud servers to converse in a single chat room.

Nextcloud Tables can now be used to build mini applications using no-code methods. Much of the overhaul of the teams management interface helps organisations work more efficiently.

Schleswig-Holstein chief information officer Sven Thomson said: "With Nextcloud Tables, we're definitely getting to a point where we can replace traditional
specialised procedures, (German: Fachverfahren), by storing the data structures in Nextcloud.

The company said Nextcloud Hub 8 would be available for easy and fast deployment in security and compliance-critical environments, with turn-key availability for the public sector without needing a tender from Bechtle in Germany and several other European countries.

Manuel Liesenfeld, head of the Public Sector Division at Bechtle AG, commented: "Nextcloud’s solutions are already being used successfully by many customers in the public sector.

"The joint offer guarantees the highest standards of security and data protection based on open source technology."
