Microsoft to add Copilot key in the keyboard's first revamp since 1994

Generational AI has quickly become a mainstream technology since late 2022, and exploding within 2023. Well, Microsoft has now announced the new Windows 11 keyboard standard will include a dedicated Copilot key, the first shake-up to the keyboard since Microsoft added the Start button in 1994.

2024 is the year of the AI PC, according to Microsoft, and will be so significant, so commonplace, and so entrenched in daily activities, that the company is adding a new Copilot key to Windows 11 keyboards. Not simply software keyboards, but actual physical, touchable keyboards too.

Microsoft states that just as it introduced the Start key decades ago, and made a simple entry point into the world of Windows apps, so too the Copilot key will be the entry point into the AI infusion in your life, and a wealth of AI assistance to help you will all your daily business and personal activities.

The company says you'll see the Copilot key on keyboards being shown during the January CES event in Las Vegas next week, and then on new Surface keyboards within the first half of the year.
