German developer Andreas Tille has been elected as the leader of the Debian GNU/Linux project for the year 2024-25.
Voting took place from 6 April to 19 April. Debian is the sole GNU/Linux project to elect a leader.
The posting of the results online was delayed slightly, according to a statement from the Debian media team.
Tille defeated Sruthi Chandran who was making her third bid to take the leader's post.
{loadposition sam08}The project currently has 1010 developers on its rolls but less than 300 submitted valid votes.
Debian uses the Condorcet method to decide its elections; it considers all possible two-way races between candidates.
The Condorcet winner, if there is one, is the one candidate who can beat each other candidate in a two-way race with that candidate.
Tille began his one-year term on 21 April. The last leader, Jonathan Carter, held office for four years.
Debian produces what is arguably the best GNU/Linux distribution. It caters to more architectures than any other distribution.
