Singtel deploys nationwide 5G+ on 700MHz network to consumers

Singaporean government-owned operator Singtel has unveiled a 5G Advanced service for consumers on its low band 700MHz network, which the telco says was enabled by the nationwide deployment of network slicing for all customers.

Singtel says its new 5G+ service delivers faster speeds, seamless connectivity and robust security, even while roaming.

Network slicing technology provides customers with a “slice” of the network that can dynamically adapt to their specific needs in real time.

Previously, network slicing was largely used only by businesses to overcome congestion and achieve high speeds for critical applications.

According to Singtel, it is now democratising network slicing, bringing the full range of benefits of the technology to everyday users.

"To become a truly Smart Nation, it is not enough to equip enterprises with the best-in-class connectivity that furthers their business goals, our fellow citizens must also be armed with the best mobile services that allow them to optimise how they live, work and play," Ng Tian Chong, Chief Executive Officer, Singtel Singapore, said.

"This is why we have decided to elevate our 5G services for consumers so that everyone stands to benefit.

“As Singapore celebrates SG60 this year, we thought it fitting as the national telco to make this technology available to the nation, so that everyone gets the speed, reliability and protection they need to innovate and thrive in the years ahead.”

In 2022, Singtel achieved nationwide 5G coverage, making Singapore the first country in the world to achieve full standalone 5G coverage.

In February this year, Singtel became the only telco in Singapore to deploy the 700MHz spectrum to its 1.5 million Singtel 5G customers, which it says provides up to 40% better coverage in high-rise buildings, indoor and underground spaces, as well as in remote areas across the island nation.

“As a company that’s built its business on a record of technological firsts, we’re once again raising the bar by redefining our mobile service offerings through our innovations and what we are best at – our superior network quality enhanced by slicing, and our differentiated 5G and customer experiences," Ng said.

"With the evolving needs of customers, and artificial intelligence and the Internet of Things becoming ubiquitous, we are broadening our range of services to include high value-added features.

"Alongside our best-in-class 5G+ network, we continue to offer our best-in-class 4G experience with excellent reliability, extensive coverage, and affordable access, ensuring dependable connectivity for all.”

Existing 5G users have all been upgraded to Singtel 5G+ with 700Mhz as of May and Singtel says they can now enjoy greater bandwidth, ultra-low latency and up to four times faster speeds.
