Dematic next-generation sorting technology, the Silky Crossbelt sorter

Global supply chain automation provder Dematic has launched its latest next-generation sorting technology, the Silky Crossbelt sorter.

Designed and manufactured in China leveraging Dematic’s extensive global expertise in sorting solutions, the Silky Crossbelt sorter was specifically created for the unique logistical requirements of the APAC market. With an adaptive, modular design, the sorter combines flexibility and lightweight construction for effortless integration into existing logistics frameworks. True to its name, the Silky Crossbelt sorter delivers a smooth workflow across induction, merging, sorting, and shipping processes.

“Dematic created Silky in response to the increasingly complex sorting demands of the APAC region,” says Steve Cheung, Senior Vice President (SVP) – President Asia, China & MEA, Dematic, “Its design combines advanced technology with a deep understanding of industry-specific applications. Our goal was operational efficiency, simplifying the management of intricate order consolidations, batch picking, and significantly enhancing order fulfilment.”

The sorter processes hundreds of stock keeping units (SKUs) for cross-docking and high-volume returns, making it particularly effective for industries such as apparel, food & beverage, grocery, and consumer goods.

Distribution centres and hubs worldwide handle millions of loads daily, with order fulfilment accounting for up to 90% of their operational costs. It is often a labour-intensive task that requires a combination of good system design, excellent process management, and the optimal interface between staff, technology, and information technology. In response to increasing volumes, shorter processing times, and rising operational costs, sortation equipment can significantly improve productivity, throughput, and accuracy.

“The launch of the Silky Crossbelt sorter is a significant step forward in industrial automation,” Cheung says. “It represents the transition from manual processes into highly efficient, automated operations.”

This latest innovation reinforces Dematic’s dedication to continuous improvement in logistics technology, positioning itself as a pivotal partner in helping businesses throughout the Asia-Pacific region achieve sustained success.
